About Anil

I help meditators get clear on their next step, so their practice stops drifting and they make meaningful progress.

My path has been challenging and immensely rewarding. I understand how disappointing and frustrating it is when practice stalls. My goal is to give you the guidance and support that I needed for years.

Starting Young

I first learned to meditate when I was nine years old. My father led a meditation community in our home, and under his guidance, I began meditating.

My father placed framed photographs in my bedroom of great yogis and meditation masters from India.

I was mesmerized by those photographs of men with their eyes half-closed, deep in meditation. Meditation has been at the center of my life since I was a young boy. It is my north star.

Struggling Like Many Do

In my mid-twenties, I began practicing Tibetan Buddhist meditation. I progressed quickly in my practice and began to enjoy a clear mind, peace, and joy like I had never experienced. This lasted for four years, until I began experiencing challenges with my practice.

Deep stress and old wounds became powerful obstacles, and my meditation practice became riddled with problems. I encountered the same problems that many students face. Meditation didn’t seem to work. The stress of life was too great. I became overwhelmed.

Frustrated by my inability to meditate well, and overcome with mental turmoil, I decided to fully dedicate myself to my meditation practice.

Training Deeply With Masters

I moved across the country to take a work-study position at Vajrapani Institute, a renowned meditation retreat center in the redwood forest of California. My goal was to find the guidance I needed to right my meditation practice and progress deeper than ever in meditation. I planned to stay for two months, but I stayed for a year and a half.

At Vajrapani, I trained with highly respected meditation instructors from around the world. As Assistant Director of the center, I was able to meet and spend time individually with highly accomplished teachers, asking them questions and getting individualized guidance on my path.

During my time at Vajrapani, I developed a strong, consistent approach to meditation that would serve as my main practice for the next fourteen years.

Now I pass on the lessons my teachers gave me, refined through decades of practice into a clear path for students who want meaningful progress.

How I Guide Students One-on-One

I work with students one-on-one, because people make the most progress with guidance tailored to their practice and the obstacles they face.

I take time to understand your current practice, what you’ve experienced, why you feel stuck, and what you want your practice to help you achieve. Then I help you get clear on your next step, so you keep progressing and build a steady practice.

From my decades of practice and study with meditation masters, I have learned where the pitfalls are and how to avoid them. I help students develop a solid practice that they have confidence in. I offer clear guidance on how to handle obstacles and keep moving forward.

Working one-on-one allows me to offer personalized guidance that can save years of learning from books, apps, or generic group instruction. My goal is to help you understand what’s holding you back and what to do next. I want you to spend your time on practices that create momentum, consistent progress, and the deeper benefits you want from meditation.

Why This Matters For You

Even after years of meditation, I became overwhelmed and my practice fell apart. Through decades of training and practice, I learned why meditation stalls and how to get it back on track.

I can help you learn why your practice has stalled, what your next step is, and how to build a steady, confident meditation practice.
